TechPlace Start-Ups Get Much Needed Legal Advice from Drummond Woodsum

To help make building a business as easy as possible for some of Maine’s newest companies, Portland, Maine-based law firm Drummond Woodsum has opened an office in TechPlace, the technology accelerator located at Brunswick Landing.

TechPlace offers low-cost office, manufacturing, and research and development space in a shared work environment to start-up manufacturers, designers and IT companies looking to grow their businesses. Created by the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority (MRRA) as a science and technology business incubator, TechPlace supports businesses in aerospace/aviation, composites/advanced materials, biotech/biomed, renewable energy, and information services technologies.

“Drummond Woodsum has a robust Venture Capital and Emerging Companies practice group,” said Michael High, Practice Group Leader. “Our expertise is a natural fit for TechPlace and its businesses. We can help them start out on a solid legal footing with advice on basic issues such as choice of entity and more complicated issues such as protecting intellectual property and strategic partnerships.”

With its office on site, Drummond Woodsum is convenient to TechPlace tenants for consultations and queries.

“Starting a new business is exciting,” added High. “It also can be rife with legal pitfalls that aren’t immediately apparent—especially in the science and technology sector. We’re eager to be a resource for these intrepid entrepreneurs.”

Drummond Woodsum represents numerous emerging companies in all phases of their life cycles, from formation and financing to operating, hiring, growing and liquidity events.
