Drummond Woodsum's Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Compliance practice offers sophisticated legal counsel for a rapidly changing healthcare industry.
We work closely with our healthcare provider clients, including hospitals, clinics, therapists, counselors, medical groups, and a variety of similar entities, to design, implement, and provide ongoing advice with respect to HIPAA compliance programs. We have performed in-depth and confidential compliance audits to help strengthen existing programs, policies, and procedures, and ensure that they meet the "effectiveness" standard necessary to provide protection in case of an investigation or enforcement action. We also prepare more general HIPAA compliance plans that help our clients ensure that they have the appropriate policies and safeguards in place to protect the privacy, portability, and security of patients’ protected health information.
If and when issues do arise, we assist our clients in assessing the need to make a voluntary disclosure where potential problems have been identified and, if a decision to do so is made, we provide support in the development and presentation of such disclosures. We counsel clients in a manner that ensures their compliance with current and anticipated statutes and regulations, while at the same time remaining sensitive to clients’ business realities and constituent concerns.
