Hannah King Quoted on Bullying and the IEP Team Process

Hannah King, a member of Drummond Woodsum’s Special Education Group, was quoted in an article, “Respond Appropriately to Parents' Bullying Concerns in IEP Meeting”, recently published by LPR, a national education law publication.

The article advises not to disregard parents' concerns about bullying in an IEP meeting if the child's learning may be affected.

"Parents have a right to participate in the IEP process, and if they think bullying is impacting their child's ability to access FAPE, then the IEP team should talk about that," said Hannah E. King, a school attorney at Drummond Woodsum Attorneys at Law in Portland, Maine. "It's not appropriate to talk about the details of the investigation. The focus should be on how to change the student's IEP if it needs to be changed."
