ACA Breakthrough for Mid-Sized Schools

Due to certain changes under the ACA previously scheduled to take effect July 1, 2017, school units with between 1-100 employees were expected to have leave the existing MEA health insurance plans on that date.   However, on Wednesday, October 7, 2015,  President Obama signed the Protecting Affordable Coverage for Employees Act (PACE Act) which will effectively prevent school units with 51-100 employees from having to leave existing MEA health plans.  School units with between 1-50 employees are still expected to have to leave MEA plans effective July 1, 2017.  These school units will be forced to find health insurance coverage elsewhere, such as on the small employer SHOP Exchange or the private insurance market.
