The Board as Employer: Micromanaging vs. Leadership

Perhaps one of the most difficult things about serving on a school board is having to determine the line between providing good leadership and inappropriately micromanaging the operation of the school. Who is responsible for assessing the performance of teachers and administrators?  What is a school board’s responsibility in regards to hiring school employees and ensuring that the employees perform well?  This clinic will explore these issues and try to draw the crucial lines that allow a school to operate well and avoid unnecessary conflicts between administrators and school board members.
