Advanced Collective Bargaining – What’s Happening at the Bargaining Table and What to Do About It

This clinic will discuss substantive issues that school boards will likely face at the bargaining table this upcoming year and the pitfalls attached to each.   The MEA has issued statewide bargaining directives and advice to its local affiliates on a number of topics, including salary scale construction, the educator effectiveness law, reduction in force, just cause, and zipper clauses, which can all have significant collective bargaining implications  for school districts.   We will analyze each of these issues, discuss actual proposals made by the teachers’ unions and suggests strategies and alternative language that school boards may wish to negotiate.
