Although school boards generally support the goal of equal educational access for students with disabilities, they are often surprised by the high costs of some aspects of special education services and dispute resolution and concerned that the board has little control over those costs. This clinic will provide an overview of how the special education system works, the reasons for the costs and steps districts can take to control the costs while meeting the requirements of the law and providing full educational opportunities to students with disabilities.
