Drummond Woodsum, a full-service law firm with offices in Maine and New Hampshire, announced today that it has named Ann S. Chapman as Practice Group Leader for the firm's Higher Education Group.
Chapman, a non-lawyer consultant who joined Drummond Woodsum in 1999, consults with colleges and universities throughout the country. Ms. Chapman serves as an outside investigator and trainer for institutions on a wide range of issues, including student sexual misconduct, discrimination and workplace misconduct. In addition, Ms. Chapman consults with colleges and universities on human resources and employment issues, employee and student policies/procedures, HR audits, compensation studies and contract analysis.
On her new role, Chapman said, "I’m excited about this opportunity and proud to work with this group of accomplished and caring professionals in providing higher education institutions with outstanding legal counsel, trial and consulting services.” The Higher Education Group provides comprehensive services in the areas of faculty tenure, employment law, student discipline, employment discrimination, public accommodation discrimination, disability rights, Title IX and related issues, investigations, First Amendment issues, real estate, finance, planned giving, torts and insurance, and risk management.
Chapman earned her B.A. from Bates College. She is an author and editor of numerous books and articles on employment and policy topics. Before joining Drummond Woodsum, Ann served as a policy and resources specialist for Maine School Management Association, providing policy consulting, writing and workshop assistance for school systems throughout Maine. Her professional background includes extensive experience in market research, technical writing and editing. Ann also served on the Cape Elizabeth School Board for six years, with two years as Board Chair. She has served as a CASA guardian ad litem for children in state custody for many years.
