Drummond Woodsum Attorney David M. Kallin & Family Commence a Thru-Hike of the Appalachian Trail

Drummond Woodsum, a full-service law firm with offices in Maine and New Hampshire, announced today that attorney David M. Kallin is commencing a planned through-hike of the Appalachian Trail with his family. This family adventure of 2,185 miles from Georgia to Maine starts April 1, 2014 and concludes at Mt. Katahdin in Maine in October, if all goes to plan. The Kallin family includes two children under the age of ten and their dog.

Mr. Kallin, whose law practice focuses on land conservation, land use and natural resource law said, “The Appalachian Trail has been a central path in both my family and professional life since my wife and I hiked from end to end in 2002.” Kallin adds, “I look forward to the opportunity afforded by the next six months for the Appalachian Trail to become the central path that will guide our family growth as we forge even stronger relationships in the mountains.”

Drummond Woodsum is proud to support the Kallin Family in this adventure. “We see Dave as one of our future leaders. We are confident that many of the trail clubs and conservancies we represent will benefit from Dave’s time connecting to the land.” said William L. Plouffe, Drummond Woodsum’s Environmental & Land Use Group Chair.

“We are putting into practice the best thinking from the business world on how to attract and keep talented employees,” said Benjamin E. Marcus, Drummond Woodsum’s Managing Partner. “The next generation is less motivated by money and more by lifestyle. We want to keep brilliant and hardworking lawyers like Dave by providing him the opportunity to achieve all his goals and by demonstrating our commitment to his success. Given the importance of natural resource conservation to Dave’s personal and professional life, this experience will make him an even greater asset to our clients.”

Mr. Kallin is a former oceanographer. He received an undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 2002 and a law degree from the University of Maine School of Law in 2009, where he graduated first in his class and received the Law School’s 2008 Shur-Frinsko Award for student work in municipal law and local governance.

Mr. Kallin will be blogging about his adventure periodically. To follow the Kallin Family Adventure visit: kallinfamily.com.
