Amy Olfene joined the firm in the fall of 2014 following graduation from the University of Maine School of Law. Prior to joining the firm, Amy spent five years working primarily in tobacco control and healthy housing. During this time, Amy traveled the country training and informing diverse groups, from lawmakers to housing providers, and worked with—as well as advocated before—the Maine Legislature, administrative agencies, and municipalities on a number of projects and proposals.

While in law school, Amy served as Editor-in-Chief of the Maine Law Review, overseeing the school’s publication and the organization of a symposium on digital privacy law. In 2013, the journal published her piece, Of Asthma and Ashtrays: Examining the Rights of and Exploring Ways to Protect Maine Tenants Living in Multi-Unit Rental Housing Who Are Involuntarily Exposed to Secondhand Tobacco Smoke in Their Homes, an article which was profoundly impacted by her pre-law school career as a program director, policy analyst, and advocate in the field of public health.

In addition to her work on Law Review, Amy co-chaired the Maine Students for Public Interest Law, served as a Teaching and Research Assistant with the law school’s Academic Support Program, a Legal Writing Teaching Assistant, a judicial extern with the Maine District Court, and a student attorney with Pine Tree Legal Assistance. Upon graduation, Amy received the Edward S. Godfrey Leadership Award, which is presented to the student who has made the most significant contribution to a student-edited law journal during his or her time in law school, the Maine Law Faculty Significant Achievement Award, which is presented to graduates in recognition of significant academic performance and overall contribution to the school, and was recognized for providing volunteer legal services to clients through her work with the Volunteer Lawyers Project and the United Way of Greater Portland’s CA$H Program.
