Ed Woodsum graduated from Yale University in 1953 with a B.A. in history. After serving for two years in the U.S. Army, he entered Yale Law School and, after graduation, worked for White & Case in New York City, specializing in corporate mergers, acquisitions and finance. An original co-founder of Drummond Woodsum, Ed practiced law at the firm from 1965 to 1988, when he took leave to serve as Yale's Athletic Director (1988 - 1994). He returned to his law practice at Drummond Woodsum in 1994 until his retirement from active practice in 1997.

Ed has served as a Fellow of the Yale Corporation, a Director and Board Chair of the National Audubon Society and Maine Coast Heritage Trust, and as a Trustee and Board Chair of the University of New England.
