Rob Gips has served as legal counsel and as business and financial advisor to Indian tribal governments and businesses since 1983.

Rob's professional practice has included service as outside general counsel and advisor in business and financial transactions by major tribal governments and businesses throughout the U.S. Representative tribal clients include the Seminole Tribe of Florida and Seminole Hard Rock Entertainment, the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and Four Winds Casino Resort in Michigan, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut, the Passamaquoddy Tribe and Penobscot Nation in Maine, the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi and the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan, and the  Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians in California. He also works with select developers, lenders, hedge funds and businesses operating in Indian Country, and also represents businesses and entrepreneurs outside Indian country in business and financial transactions.  His specialized business development work for his clients has encompassed the creation and acquisition of hotel, resort, casino and gaming facilities, newspaper acquisition, internet fiber development, tribal housing, tribal manufacturing facilities, industrial plants, and broad variety of both on- and off-reservation joint ventures. He has also represented lenders and borrowers in several billion dollars of complex commercial financings in Indian country.

Rob is an independent member of the Board of Managers of Seminole Hard Rock Entertainment and Seminole Hard Rock International, which operates over 180 cafes, hotels and casinos in over 70 countries around the world. He also serves a Board member of the Passamaquoddy Tribe Wild Blueberry Company, the country’s largest native blueberry producer.

Rob is listed in national independent peer-based attorney guides, including Best Lawyers in America, and Chambers USA has awarded its highest national ranking to Rob for his Native American law practice, listing him among the top practitioners of Native American law in the U.S.

He has a B.A. from Harvard University and a J.D. and MBA from Yale Law School and Yale School of Management, and he clerked after law school for the Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court.
