Michael Buescher counsels public schools and private sector employers in all aspects of labor law, employment law, and school law.

Michael has extensive experience representing and counseling schools on all matters affecting the school environment and the classroom, including the constitutional rights of students and school employees, personnel and confidentiality issues, and compliance with various state and federal laws and regulations governing the operation of public schools. He frequently provides seminars and trainings for his school clients on a variety of topics.

In addition Michael works closely with employers of all sizes tackling difficult situations including potential discrimination, harassment and disability claims, restrictive covenants, wage and hour issues, and discipline, termination and severance practices. Michael advises employers on compliance with state and federal employment laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Maine Human Rights Act, and the Whistleblowers’ Protection Act.

Michael grew up in Camden and taught music in Maine and New York before attending law school. Michael is a 2008 graduate of Fordham University School of Law, where he was the Writing & Research Editor for the Fordham Law Review. Michael clerked for the Honorable Judge Loretta A. Preska in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York before returning to Maine.
